Physician

Juan Soto, MD, CCFP

Associations: Obesity Canada, Obesity Medicine Association and the World Obesity Federation.

Dr.  Soto is a  Physician with clinical interest and expertise in the management and prevention of obesity. He strongly believes in the implementation of weight management services for his patients  using a patient-centered approach. For the last several years, he has been actively involved in clinical research, university teaching and the development and implementation of Weight Management and Chronic Disease Programs. Dr. Soto was a founding physician of the Westview PCN Obesity Clinic in Spruce Grove, Alberta and then Alberta Bariatric Clinic in Edmonton, Alberta. After moving to Ontario, he quickly realized the need for medical bariatric services in the York Region. He then founded Aurora Bariatric Clinic, now called ABC Weight Management.

Dr. Soto is member of the  Obesity Canada, Obesity Medicine Association and the World Obesity Federation. He has completed the Advance Curriculum  Fellowship Program in Obesity Medicine and is also a SCOPE Certified Physician  in recognition of his experience and knowledge in the care of patients with obesity.

Registered Dietitian

Catherine O'Halloran, RD

Catherine O’Halloran is a Registered Dietitian with over 25 years’ experience working in many diverse settings. She has provided nutrition advice in health care settings, clinics, educational institutions and in the community. She has worked with individuals with overweight & obesity, elevated blood fats, elevated blood glucose and many other health or nutrition concerns.

Catherine will work with our team educating individuals and groups on practical nutrition principles and help clients develop healthy eating strategies to assist them as they embark on their new nutrition and weight loss goals, Remember- your diet is one of the biggest determining factors to live a healthy lifestyle. Catherine can help you achieve your nutrition goals. Catherine received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Western Ontario and completed her internship at Ottawa Civic Hospital. Catherine is a member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario, Dietitians of Canada, and Obesity Canada

Physiotherapist

David Vahid Eshraghi

Education: B.Sc Physical Therapy, Tehran University, Tehran Iran. 1991, Licensed in Canada, USA, and Iran 

Associations: Ontario Physiotherapy Association 

David can help with treatment to restore, maintain, and make the most of a patient’s mobility, function, and well-being. Physiotherapy helps through physical rehabilitation, injury prevention, and health and fitness. David uses many modalities to assist in your treatment and/or recovery like massage, heat treatment, ultrasound, TENS/electrotherapy devices and exercise. 

David can play a significant role in: reducing or removing the barriers to physical activity; designing, implementing and monitoring exercise programs; and promoting safe participation in physical activity to facilitate weight reduction and weight control.

Physiotherapist

Aurelie Hartawidjojo 

Education: University of Toronto Bsc in Physiotherapy and Neuroscience Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute.

Associations: Canadian Physiotherapy Association, Ontario Physiotherapy Association, Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute 

Aurelie has experience treating all ages from pediatrics to geriatrics with diverse multicultural backgrounds. Her clinical experience includes orthopedic conditions, a variety of neurological conditions, including stroke, parkinson’s disease, brain tumors, post-polio syndrome and much more! Aurelie uses many modalities to assist in your treatment and/or recovery like massage, heat treatment, ultrasound, TENS/Electrotherapy devices, Acupuncture and exercise.

Chiropractor

Dr. Samara Nicholson

Education: Doctor of Chiropractic Degree from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC 2012). Animal Chiropractor, Traditional Chinese Medicine (McMaster), Bachelor of Human Kinetics at York University 2001. 

Associations: Canadian Chiropractic Association 

Certifications: Certified in Standard First Aid with CPR & AED 

Samara specializes in relieving pain and improving physical function of her patients by identifying the root cause of the problem. She uses a variety of techniques, with a special focus on manual adjustments, joint mobilization, clinical acupuncture, muscle release techniques, and rehabilitative exercises. Dr. Samara can help improve your range of motion, help eliminate pain with certain movements, help reduce nerve pain, and help increase joint mobilizations that can be impeding on your everyday health. 

Coupled with a healthy diet and a steady exercise routine, chiropractic care can aid in weight loss. Spinal adjustments can improve pressure that could be causing subluxations. With these removed, exercise should be easier. Additionally, adjustments can supplement weightlifting and can improve muscle tone.

Registered Social Worker

Zoe Eliopoulos

Education: Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Services at Ryerson University

Associations: Registered Social Workers of Ontario 

Zoe has been working with vulnerable populations within the community for over 5 years, coupled with lived experience. She has an immense passion for mental health advocacy and providing support, empathy, and understanding to better the lives of individuals in need. Her treatment plans consist of a combination of Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT), active listening, strong communication, and interpersonal skills, personalized to your individual needs. This allows Zoe to provide optimal support and mental health care. 

Zoe can help you work through any barriers you may have regarding weight loss and weight management, providing appropriate coping mechanisms, techniques to help guide you through the program, and healthy coping mechanisms to avoid a negative mental state of mind, and much more!

Registered Nurse

Marcela Tortello, RN

Marcela Tortello is a Registered Nurse with over six years experience in cancer care and chronic disease management. She received her Nursing degree from the University of Alberta. She has conducted both individual consultations and group patient education sessions for those with diabetes and obesity. Marcela has a caring and sensitive approach to weight management. She has completed her Obesity Management Certificate from the University of Alberta and Obesity Canada.

Chiropody

Kaitlin Bugeja 

Education: Registered Chiropodist with Michener Institute, Toronto University of Guelph-Humber - Kinesiology Humber Institute of Technology Fitness & Health Promotion 

Associations: College of Chiropodist of Ontario, American College of Sports Medicine 

Kaitlin has experience in treating the feet and their ailments. She can help with balance and mobility issues, and biomechanical assessments and gait analysis. She is skilled at diabetic foot care and wound treatment, efficient in plaster of paris casting for custom made orthotics, and proficient in podiatric anesthesia and injection techniques.

Kaitlin can help treat biomechanical foot ailments and provide you with custom made orthotics to help with proper alignment of this body, and any balance and/or coordination that may be a barrier to your movement or ability to exercise. Did you know that flat feet and plantar fasciitis are common weight related problems?
